description tag - An HTML meta tag used to provide a description of a webpage for search engine listings. Most search engines display the description tag within their results to provide the user with an overview of what the site is about.
directory - An organized, menu-based listing of websites. Sites are typically added to directories by human review rather than search engine algorithms.
domain name - The virtual address of a website (in the form www.organizationname.com, .net, .edu, .gov, etc.)
email marketing - Promotion of products or services via email
e-media - Placement of online marketing tactics, including online advertisements, targeted email, e-newsletter sponsorships, etc.
e-newsletter - An email with editorial content, sent to a list of subscribers who have opted in to receive educational content on a particular topic
flash - Vector-based multimedia technology developed by Macromedia that enables the development of complicated animation and interactivity within a relatively small file size
frames - A website layout used to combine two or more separate HTML documents within a single web browser screen. A framed website often causes problems for search engines, and may not be indexed correctly.
Google - One of the leading search engines, estimated to have indexed about 8.8 billion webpages
HTML - HyperText Markup Language - The main language used to create information on the Internet. Web browsers display the webpages that HTML code describes.
impression - One human view of an advertising unit or webpage
indexed pages - Webpages that have been read by a search engine's spider and included in its database of search results
interactive marketing - Promotion of products or services using online tactics such as online advertising, targeted email, e-newsletter sponsorships, etc.

Javascript - A programming language used to create dynamic functionality on webpages
keyword/keyphrase - A word or phrase used to perform a search query
keyword density - The prevalence of a keyword or keyphrase on a webpage in relation to all content on the page, calculated as the number of instances of the term divided by the instances of all words on the page
keywords tag - HTML meta tag placed on a webpage to inform search engines which keywords are important to the page's target audience. The keywords tag is just one of many factors that influence search engines' ranking of webpages.
